Primer Reports

Local Government Conservation Opportunity Maps and Primers

An information package and map has been prepared for each municipality and rural area in the Regional District South Okanagan-Similkameen. The “Primers” provide details about the location of sensitive ecosystems and recommendations for conservation and restoration of natural areas
Each map contains two insets:

  • Conservation rankings with the location of existing conservation lands, dedicated open space, Agricultural Land Reserve, and Environmentally Sensitive Development Permit Areas; and
  • Habitat connectivity, known California bighorn sheep movement corridors, and locations of cultivated fields, orchards, vineyards, and rural areas.

The primers can provide elected officials, planners and planning committees with information to help factor in environmental considerations to decisions on urban and rural development, park planning, and industrial zones. The maps could be used by communities to further identify valued recreation areas and green spaces.
