Traditional Ecological Knowledge encompasses the Syilx worldview of the land and all living things upon it. The Syilx people have long been a part of the health of the land and wish to be engaged in decision-making affecting the land in their traditional territories. Traditional ecological knowledge combined with western science increases the chance to protect natural areas within the Okanagan Similkameen. TEK team activities include:
- Participation in education initiatives to communicate traditional ecological knowledge to many audiences
- Restoration and species at risk stewardship at Ecommunity Place on the Penticton Indian Reserve
- Work with BC Parks to identify pictograph sites
- Support and celebration of the Okanagan Nation Alliance’s fisheries enhancement work
